Showrunners is the first ever feature length documentary film to explore the fascinating world of US television showrunners and the creative forces aligned around them. The film, produced by Irish company Black Sheep Productions, opens exclusively at Light House Cinema in Dublin and at EYE cinema in Galway on October 17th, and will be available on VOD on Volta and iTunes from October 31st. The film will feature as the closing presentation of the Stranger than Fiction documentary film festival at the IFI in Dublin on September 28th.
The film features contributions from Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Firefly), J.J. Abrams (LOST, Alias), Kurt Sutter (Sons Of Anarchy), Damon Lindelof (LOST, The Leftovers), Ronald D.Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory), Jane Espenson (Once Upon A Time, Husbands), Jonathan Nolan (Person Of Interest), Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire), Robert & Michelle King (The Good Wife), J.H. Wyman (Fringe, Almost Human), Hart Hanson (Bones), Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus), Shawn Ryan (The Shield) Matthew Carnahan (House of Lies) and many more.
“These are the people responsible for creating, writing and overseeing every element of production on one of the United States’s biggest exports, television drama and comedy series,” explained director Des Doyle. “The film shows audiences the massive challenges that goes into ensuring their favorite TV series air on time, as well as the many challenges that showrunners have to overcome to make sure a new series even makes it onto the schedule at all.”
The book tie-in with the film will be available from Titan Books from September 5th, and the film will open in US theatres and iTunes on October 31st via Submarine Deluxe and Gravitas.
