The comedy event of the year, well easily the most publicized film of the year, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is the big opener this week. The last week before Christmas is usually filled with holiday fare and this Christmas is no different. So what should you and your family see this festive season?

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay reassemble the news-team from 2004’s comedy classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, in a whole new adventure that sees Ron working at the world’s very first 24 hour cable news channel. The original is rightly regarded as one of the finest comedies in recent memory and the sequel gets 4 stars from Brogen Hayes, who says the film is great, if trying a little too hard. Our own Aine concurs with a 4 star review of her own, meanwhile Donald Clarke in The Irish Times plumps for 3, and Entertainment.ie‘s Rory Cashin is less effusive with his 2.5.

Worth a Watch: Walking With Dinosaurs 3D

The film, which is based on the BBC TV series of the same name, is a computer animated story of when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, in which an underdog dino triumphs to become a hero for the ages. Entertainment.ie’s Gavin Burke praises the films visuals in his 3 star review, Dave Higgins at SoSueMe concurs, but cautions that the film is really aimed at young boys only. Movies.ie’s Paul Byrne urges caution in his 2 star review.

Probably Avoid: Moshi Monsters
[yframe url=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_6rN3JXEDg’]
Moshi Monsters is the big screen debut of the incredibly popular online game. The film sees Katsuma, Poppet, Mr. Snoodle, and the other Moshi Monters in an action-packed, song-filled race against time! Together they must stop evil Dr. Strangeglove and his incompetent Glump sidekick Fishlips from pulverising the recently discovered Great Moshling Egg. If that makes any sense to you or your kids then you’ve probably already decided to see this. The reviews are not good, with Tara Brady in the Irish Times, Rory Cashin at Entertainment.ie, and Paul Byrne at Movies.ie, all giving the film 2 stars. Best draw lots as to who brings the kids!
