#IrishActor: Cillian Murphy reteams with Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk

The Wrap is reporting that Cork-native Cillian Murphy will reteam with director Christopher Nolan for Nolan’s WWII action-thriller Dunkirk.

Murphy, who previously starred for Nolan in the Dark Knight trilogy and Inception, will play a supporting role alongside Inception co-star Tom Hardy, as well as Mark Rylance and Northern Ireland’s Kenneth Branagh. The lead cast is filled with newcomers, and includes Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Aneurin Barnard, and One Direction singer Harry Styles.

The film, which is written by Nolan, depicts the real life events of the Dunkirk evacuation, which took place at the beginning of World War II, and saw the evacuation of some 330,000 Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk after they had been surrounded and trapped by German forces.

Dunkirk will be shot by acclaimed cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema on a combination of 15/70mm IMAX film and Super Panavision 65mm film, in order to achieve the maximum possible image quality.

Shooting begins in May, with Warner Bros. release the film worldwide on July 21, 2017.
