Warner Bros. acquires US remake rights for Irish comedy The Stag

Big news from Hollywood where it has been announced that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to remake Irish comedy film The Stag.

The Irish version of the film was directed by John Butler, who co-wrote the feature with star Peter McDonald. The film follows a group of lads on a wild adventure in the great outdoors that takes some unexpected detours.

As well as McDonald the Irish version starred Hugh O’Conor, Amy Huberman, Andrew Scott, Brian Gleeson, Andrew Bennett, and Michael Legge. No word yet if any will feature in the US remake.

Released in Ireland last year The Stag grossed more than €600,000, making it one of the most successful Irish films released in 2014. It was released in the US on VOD and limited release under the title The Bachelor Weekend.

Rob Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan of Treasure Entertainment produced the original and will return as executive producers on the remake. Jon Berg and Jon Gonda are overseeing for Warner Bros.
We shot this plucky independent comedy over 20 days in the pissing rain, in an Irish November, and for 10 of those days the actors were naked apart from one sock each, and some ivy… I wish those involved in the Warners remake the best of luck.

This is a very exciting development in the life of this film: the production was the result of sheer force of good will on the part of the whole team. We are so proud and pleased for everyone involved that it may find a new lease of life with Warners.
The Stag is available to buy/rent/watch on Netflix, SkyStore, iTunes, and Amazon.
