Irish Film: Yorgos Lanthimos to reteam with Element Pictures for The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Deadline is reporting that Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos is teaming up with Irish production company Element Pictures for his forthcoming feature film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Lanthimos recently directed The Lobster in conjunction with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, and David Kosse of Film4. Film4 will also be involved in this new film, which is one of a number of projects Lanthimos is developing with the two production companies.

Lanthimos will direct and co-writeThe Killing of a Sacred Deer, with his The Lobster co-writer Efthimis Fillipou. The film is a psychological thriller with supernatural elements that follows a young man that needs to take revenge, a doctor that has to make a decision, and his family that must survive.

Another film that Lanthimos has lined up with Element Pictures and Film4 is The Favourite. The Lobster‘s Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz return, joined by Emma Stone, for this period piece, which takes lace in the corridors of power during the reign of the British monarch Queen Anne. Colm will play Queen Anne, with Weisz her confidante, and Stone Weisz’ poor cousin who find favour at court.

The Lobster is currently available to buy or rent on DVD and VOD.
