#IrishTalent: Gerard Barrett sells new drama Honey to US network FX

Deadline is reporting that Kerry filmmaker Gerard Barrett has sold a new hour-long drama to US TV network FX. Titled Honeythe series is set against the backdrop of the world of corporate espionage. Plot details are currently being kept quiet, adding to the intrigue.

Barrett, the acclaimed director of Pilgrim Hill and Glassland, is no stranger to TV having written, directed and produced the mini-series Smalltown for TV3. That series aired late last year and was widely praised.

He most recently directed Brain on Fire, which premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. The film, which starred Chloë Grace Moretz, Jenny Slate and Richard Armitage, was based on the true story of a rising journalist who mysteriously starts having seizures and hearing voices. As weeks go by, she moves inexplicably from violence to catatonia — but a last-minute intervention by one doctor finally gives her a diagnosis and hope to rebuild her life.

On the deal with FX and FOX, Barrett says “I’m beyond excited and honoured to work with the most talented and ambitious people in Television Drama. Look at the shows FX have produced recently, Fargo, The Americans and Sons Of Anarchy to name but a few. I can’t wait to go on this journey with FX and bring Honey to life in a bold and ambitious manner”.

Barrett is represented by WME in the U.S. and Independent Talent Group in the UK. Barrett produces through his own production company Blank Page Productions.
