#IrishFilm: Morfydd Clark joins Irish co-production The Man Who Invented Christmas

ScreenDaily is reporting that Welsh actress Morfydd Clark has signed on to appear in Irish co-production The Man Who Invented Christmas.

The film is based on the life of Charles Dickens, with Clark playing his wife. Dan Stevens will play the young Dickens, with Christopher Plummer as Scrooge, and Jonathan Pryce as Dickens’ father.

Set in 1843, The Man Who Invented Christmas sees a young Charles Dickens debt-ridden and dispirited attempting to write and publish a small book that would keep his creditors at bay. A small book called A Christmas Carol.

The film, which is filming in Ireland, has been backed by the Irish Film Board. Dublin-based Parallel Films are working with British director Bharat Nalluri (Spooks, Life on Mars, Hustle). It is written by Susan Coyle, based on the book by Les Standford.

Clark will be a familiar face to Irish audiences, having played Frederica Vernon in Whit Stillman’s Irish co-production Love & Friendship.
