Scriptwriter Jennifer Davidson, recipient of inaugural Film Mayo Tyrone Guthrie Bursary

Film Mayo has announced that scriptwriter Jennifer Davidson is the recipient of their inaugural Film Mayo Tyrone Guthrie bursary.  The bursary was open to filmmakers born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Applicants for the bursary needed to show significant achievement in their field or demonstrate a high degree of promise. All submissions were assessed by an independent, expert panel.

The Tyrone Guthrie Centre is a residential workplace for artists, dedicated to supporting and facilitating creativity within a welcoming and trusted environment and it is an established and central part of cultural life in Ireland being the largest residency of its type for artists in this country. The centre at Annaghmakerrig is universally well-regarded for successfully providing a creative space outside everyday life, which gives artists time and space to focus on ideas and work.

From Castlehill, in North Mayo, Davidson is an experienced screenwriter with a background in documentary production and development. A regular writer for RTE’s top rating continuing drama series, Fair City, she is involved in scripting individual episodes and contributing to story development. Her work also includes the live TV drama Socks and Shoes as part of Seomra a Se for TG4 and the IFTA nominated young people’s series Primary School Musical. For RTE Radio her work has been broadcast as part of the Francis MacManus Awards and the Book Show’s 100 Stories 100 words.
