#IrishFilm: WestEnd Films to sell Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami at Cannes

ScreenDaily is reporting that WestEnd Films has secured the international sales rights to Sophie Fiennes’ documentary/biopic Grace Jones : Bloodlight And Bami, which is being produced by Dublin-based Blinder Films.

The film, which was previously titled Grace Jones: The Music of My Life, is a multi-narrative journey through the private and public realms of the legendary singer and performer Grace Jones. Mixing intimate personal footage with unique staged musical sequences, and reaching beyond the iconic mask to create a cinematic journey into the worlds of Ms Grace Jones.

The documentary is a collaboration between Jones and Fiennes, who first embarked on the project together in 2005. Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami is produced by Katie Holly for Blinder, as well as Sophie Fiennes and Shani Hinton in association with JW Films and financed by BBC Films and the BFI in association with Roads Entertainment and the TBA21 Foundation and with the participation of Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board.

This film began in a collaborative creative spirit. Grace had fiercely controlled her public image, but made the bold decision to un-mask. She never sought to control my shooting process, and I didn’t second-guess the narrative of the film as I was shooting. I just gathered evidence. The film is a deliberately present-tense experience ; for me this is the thrill-ride of verité cinema.

WestEnd will shop Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami to prospective buyers at the Cannes Marché du Film which is currently taking place. Trafalgar Releasing will release the film in the UK and Ireland.
