Irish Film: First trailer for Niall Heery's Gold

Wildcard Distribution has released the first trailer for a new Irish film Gold, by IFTA winning director Niall Heery. Heery won the Breakthrough Talent Award at the IFTA’s for his first feature Small Engine Repair, which we here at Scannain are very big fans of.

Out of their lives for 12 years, Ray is on a mission to re-connect with his ex-girlfriend and teenage daughter who live with his former controlling and regimented P.E. teacher.  Unfortunately his efforts to bridge the gap with his daughter seem to lead to chaos turning any good intentions he may have into comic catastrophe.

The film stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) along with David Wilmot (Calvary), Kerry Condon (The Runway) and James Nesbitt (The Hobbit).  David McSavage (Calvary) and Martin Maloney (The Hardy Bucks) also make appearances .

Speaking about the release, director Niall Heery who also penned the film with his brother Brendan, said: “I’m really looking forward to working with Wildcard on the release of ‘Gold’. They showed great excitement for the project and when you’re dealing with people with that level of enthusiasm, it makes you feel more secure about your film’s prospects. We spoke to a number of distributors, and they all had interesting ideas but Wildcard had the most innovative approach on how best to promote the film and get it to its audience.”

Gold will be released this autumn, and was produced by Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan for Irish production company Subotica (Jimi: All is By my Side, Song for a Raggy Boy) in association with Gloucester Place Films with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board and the BAI.
