#Training: Screen Training Ireland announces Chrysalis: The Advanced Screenplay Development Programme

Screen Training Ireland has announced Chrysalis: The Advanced Screenplay Development Programme. Chrysalis is an intensive, project-based development programme. It is aimed at writers and development teams of both live action and animation cinematic projects. Individual writers in receipt of third party support and teams of a writer / writers with their active producer / development executive are asked to apply. Eight strong film projects which are approaching or are at the mid-point of the development process will be chosen to participate. The programme will take the form of workshops on the craft of screenwriting combined with intensive project development in a group setting. Following this participants will have an opportunity to develop a new draft. They will receive one to one feedback and guidance on their new draft.

The programme aims to:

  • Develop established and up-and-coming writing talent
  • Promote a development culture of creative collaboration
  • Develop peer-to-peer mentoring relationships
  • Provide participants with an understanding of audience, and the importance of identifying the audience for their project
  • Develop 8 original projects.

The craft of screenwriting workshops will focus on:

  • character development – polarity and arc
  • the unity of opposites – how character roles shape a story
  • the basic dramatic predicament
  • fundamentals – what is a scene?
  • how character creates a scene
  • scene form and function
  • different types of tension: suspense, irony, mystery
  • the sequence: fundamentals and form
  • sequences in sequence: building out feature structure

The cost is €350 per project.

Each writer and team member must apply online at www.screentrainingireand.ie with a current CV. Please also email your logline, 1 page synopsis, script and producer’s / writer’s letter of intention with the names of your team to grainne.bennett@screentrainingireland.ie.

Only applications with the documentation detailed will be considered.

The Deadline for applications is 1 pm Wednesday the 7th of December 2016.

Course Duration: 5th to 10th March followed by writing time from the 11th to the 14th of May, followed by individual feedback with tutors.
