#IrishTalent: Rising star Fionn O’Shea joins James Kent’s The Aftermath

Variety is reporting that rising Irish star Fionn O’Shea will star in James Kent’s The Aftermath, alongside international stars Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgard, and Jason Clarke.

Set in postwar Germany in 1946, Rachael Morgan arrives in the ruins of Hamburg in the bitter winter to be reunited with her husband Lewis, a British colonel charged with rebuilding the shattered city. But as they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that Lewis has made an extraordinary decision: They will be sharing the grand house with its previous owners, a German widower and his troubled daughter. In this charged atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.

The Aftermath is based on Rhidian Brook’s novel, which has been adapted by Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel. Jack Arbuthnott and Malte Grunert produce and Ridley Scott and Carlo Dusi executive produce with Joe Oppenheimer and Beth Pattinson of BBC Films, who developed the project. It has support funding from Filmförderung Hamburg – Schleswig Holstein. Fox Searchlight will distribute the film, with co-heads of production David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield and VP of production Katie Goodson-Thomas overseeing the project. The film has just completed principal photography in Prague.

O’Shea featured last year in the multi-IFTA award-nominated The Seige of Jadotville, and will next be seen as one of the two leads in John Butler’s eagerly anticipated Handsome Devil. He was nominated for a Rising Star Award at this year’s Audi Dublin International Film Festival for his portrayal of Ned in Handsome Devil, which closed the festival with a standing ovation. O’Shea is represented by Curtis Brown in the U.K., Lorraine Brennan Management in Ireland, and Untitled Entertainment in the U.S.
